What If I’m Bad at Yoga? (Hint: That’s the Point)

Welcome to the Club

Let me just say this:
You’re supposed to feel awkward at first.
You’re supposed to wobble, fall, roll your eyes, and wonder what the hell you’re doing.

That’s yoga.

Yoga isn’t about being good at yoga.
It’s about being real on your mat—with your tight hamstrings, racing thoughts, and all.

If you’ve ever said:

  • “I’m not flexible enough.”

  • “I can’t do those poses.”

  • “I’m bad at yoga.”

Congrats. You’re exactly where you need to be.

The Myth of Being ‘Good’ at Yoga

Here’s the thing—there’s no such thing.

Yoga isn’t a sport.
It’s not a competition.
There’s no gold medal for best triangle pose.

Being “good” at yoga doesn’t mean:

  • You can touch your toes.

  • You can do handstands.

  • You look like the instructor.

Being “good” at yoga means:

  • You show up.

  • You breathe.

  • You feel.

Flexibility is Optional. Feeling is Required.

You don’t come to yoga because you’re flexible.
You come to yoga to get to know your body—exactly as it is.

Some days, that means stretching deep.
Other days, that means laying in child’s pose the whole damn class.

Yoga is about feeling your way through it.

You create new patterns in your brain (new neurons, yes, really) every time you notice something new:

  • “Oh, I didn’t know my shoulder was tight.”

  • “Wow, I’m holding my breath again.”

  • “This doesn’t feel good—what if I try something else?”

That’s the point.

No one’s good at yoga. That’s what makes it yoga.

Your Mat is a Mirror, Not a Stage

Yoga shows you where your ego shows up:

  • “I should go deeper.”

  • “I need to push through.”

  • “Everyone else is better than me.”

And then it invites you to let that sh*t go.

You honor your body.
You do what you need today.
You leave the rest.

You Can’t Fail at Yoga

If you breathe, you’re doing it.
If you move with intention, you’re doing it.
If you’re willing to meet yourself where you are—you’re not just “good” at yoga.
You’re killing it.

“There’s no such thing as being good at yoga.”
